January 28, 2010 - Report of the Schelstraete & Desmedt Human Resources Award 2010
The Schelstraete & Desmedt Human Resources Award rewards the best thesis in the field of Human Resources Management and Organisational Development, and was organised for the 10th time this year.
The participating educational establishments were : Universiteit Gent (UG), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL), Universiteit Antwerpen (UA), Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel (HUB), Hogeschool Gent (HOGENT), Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), Université de Liège (ULG), Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
Within each of the participating educational establishments, one laureate was put forward from the final year students of 2009. This laureate was chosen by professors for the quality and relevance of their thesis.
Nine laureates competed for the overall prize, the Schelstraete & Desmedt Human Resources Award 2010. Two prizes were awarded: one for the French-speaking and one for the Dutch-speaking institutions.
The jury, consisting of a representative from each educational institution as well as HR professionals from the world of business and journalism, assessed all the theses on their scientific value, originality, relevance and form & style.
This year’s winners are :
For the Dutch-language establishments : Britt De Soete (Universiteit Gent), with the thesis :
“Feedbackzoekend gedrag : frequentie en effect op prestatiegedrag in organisaties” (Feedback-seeking behaviour : frequency and impact on performance behaviour in organisations).
The award-winning thesis for the French-language establishments is : Sibel Bostan (Université Libre de Bruxelles) - “L’influence de la rupture du contrat psychologique sur les comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle : l’effet médiateur de la justice organisationnelle” (The influence of a breach of the psychological contract on organisational citizenship behaviours: the mediating effect of organisational justice).
The keynote speaker for the evening was Mr Jan De Moor, Group HR & Communications Manager at Recticel. “How can HR improve Board Efficiency” was the subject of his presentation, in which he highlighted the importance of the internal and internal role of Human Resources towards the Board. Internal : Executive Committee, CEO, Board of Directors, renumeration & nomination committee; external : renumeration & nomination committee, reference to the code on corporate governance, people governance.
